5 Things You Need To Know During Your First Trimester

The first trimester is an emotional roller coaster for most women. It’s exciting, sickening (literally), joyful, and a ton of other emotions that you probably aren’t sure why you are feeling them. If you are not sitting over the toilet for about an hour total every day, consider yourself extremely lucky!

Go To The Doctor

Go to your doctor immediately after your missed period to make sure you are in fact pregnant. When you figure out you are pregnant, you should get prenatal vitamins right away. You can also go to the doctor when you start getting morning sickness to get a prescription for nausea. Most over the counter medications do not work well for morning sickness.

Make Decisions For You And Your Baby

You will get great, good, bad, and awful advice from EVERYONE. Even people you don’t know. All you have to worry about is what is best for you and your baby. There will be people who tell you you need to eat organic food, you need to walk more or rest more, you need to go to ten different pregnancy classes. Unless your doctor says any of these things, you don’t need to worry about what others say.

Don’t Make Yourself Freak Out

Reading about being pregnant online is different than what your doctor will tell you. There are many superstitions that people think they need to post online for everyone to see and then people believe those things throughout their whole pregnancy. For instance, you can’t work out while pregnant. While you should always consult your doctor, working out is not bad for you or the baby while you’re pregnant. You just need to know which workouts to do and which to stay away from.

Cut Yourself Some Slack

Your body is adjusting to a human being formed and grown inside of you. You’re going to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. Don’t get down on yourself that you’re exhausted in just the first trimester. This is normal! If you need to go to bed at 8pm because you’re just too tired, there is no shame in that! Also, if you need your hubby or other family members to step it up, don’t be afraid to let them know. You need to take care of yourself and that’s hard to do when you’re trying to keep up with your pre-pregnancy schedule!

Don’t Eat A Lot Of Your Favorite Foods

Sometimes new moms think they need to eat more because they are eating for two. However, in the first trimester, you should try and eat healthy to maintain a good weight and keep yourself on track. You also may lose weight in your first trimester because of morning sickness. Eating a lot of your favorite foods might actually make you sick. Your senses will be triggered to make you nauseous. Even the smell of your favorite food can make you nauseous. Stick with bland food that you can keep down for the first trimester, then you can broaden your foods!

The first trimester comes as a shock to most mommies. This is okay! You need to know your limits and don’t push them. You will feel like you can’t get anything done because you’re either in the bathroom or trying to stay awake. There is no harm in that. Your family and friends will (hopefully) pick up some of that slack since you are a little busy growing a child in your tummy! Just remember, don’t believe everything on the Internet to be true and always consult your doctor! After all, that’s what they are there for! Good luck and we hope you have a lovely first trimester!
